Oklahoma! - Burnie Musical Society
Following the success of Les Misérables, Burnie Musical Society presents Oklahoma!
Oklahoma! is one of the most important pieces of musical theatre from the Twentieth Century.
Oklahoma! was the first musical written by the fathers of the modern musical, Rodgers and Hammerstein. Based on the play Green Grow the Lilacs by Lynn Rigg.
The iconic score inspired a new generation of Broadway musicals. Originally opening in 1943 on Broadway, the show ran for an impressive 5 years and was immortalised by a Hollywood film version.
Set in Oklahoma in 1906, this rugged musical tells the story of cowboy Curly and his romance with farmer girl Laurey. When their love is challenged by Laurey's threatening farmhand, Jud Fry, an exciting and dangerous tug of war ensues in this enthralling tale of life on the land at the turn of the century.
