Dance for joy while supporting the natural environment. The stunning Spero – Wanderer region is a 139,000 hectare tract of wild country south of Macquarie Harbour that has been left out of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. Also known as the Southwest Conservation Area, the area is managed by the Parks and Wildlife Service but mineral exploration and mining (for example) are permitted. Support the campaign to add the Spero to the World Heritage Area. The 28th annual BUTTONGRASS BALL SAT 29th MARCH 2025, 7:15 for 7:30-11:30 pm at St James Hall, Elizabeth Street. Lively Tasmanian and other traditional music by the Roundabouts + CRUM The dances will be collected and new Tasmanian bush/folk dances dedicated to the natural and cultural heritage of Tasmania - all dances taught by dance caller David "Oddsocks" Wanless. No dancing experience or partner required. Proceeds of the ball will go to the Tasmanian National Parks Association working to protect our natural heritage. All ages and identities are welcome. BYO water bottle and a plate of supper to share. Tread lightly on the land, even if you stomp on the dance floor. For further information please visit the website.
