Furneaux Maritime History Symposium

Franklin Sound, Furneaux Group
"Our Maritime History" is the theme of our first Maritime History Symposium to be held in Lady Barron, Flinders Island, Tasmania. The Furneaux Group hosted the first settlement south of Sydney when seals were discovered in large numbers following the wreck of the Sydney Cove in February 1797. Scheduled events include a Patsy Adam Smith photographic exhibition of previously unpublished images from her time in the Furneaux Group. Mr Michael Adam Smith, the son of Patsy, will be the Guest of Honour and the Keynote address will be presented by Dr Robyn Greaves, who is one of Australia's foremost researchers on Ms Adam Smith's life and works. Other presenters include Mr Thomas Gunn (PhD) and Mr Tim Smith (PhD) and Mr Kerry Mansell, a boat builder from Cape Barren Island who built and sailed a Huon pine boat from CBI to Hobart and back. There will be an optional Symposium dinner on Saturday evening and a community barbecue at the close of the Symposium.
