The Cataraqui Memorial is a significant and reflective site commemorating the tragic wreck of the Cataraqui in 1845, Australia's worst civilian maritime disaster. More than 400 passengers and crew lost their lives when the emigrant ship struck reefs off King Island's southwest coast during a violent storm. Overlooking the remote coastline and nearby gravesites, the memorial features a commemorative bell and plaques honouring those who perished. Access is via an unsealed gravel road, and a vehicle with higher clearance is recommended.

Whether you're a seasoned bowler or have never picked up a bowl in your life, everyone's welcome. Join in at the King Island Golf and Bowling Club every Thursday during the season for a relaxed, social competition. Bring your mates, meet some new faces and enjoy a bit of friendly competition. Members, visitors and beginners are all welcome, and we've got equipment available to borrow, so there's no need to bring a thing!
