Gather with us on Kunanyi where, warmed by a roaring fire inside a mountain hut, Pakana (Tasmanian Aboriginal) woman and UTAS Senior Indigenous Scholar Theresa Sainty will share stories of Wurangkili Liwari Nipaluna (Night Sky of Hobart) and her people's uninterrupted connection to the stars. Hear Theresa retell the story of the creation of Palawa, the first ancestor to walk the earth, and of the connection between Kunanyi and lightning. Join photographers Luke Tscharke and Dr Andrew Phipps as we explore the southern night sky, learning palawa kani words for stars while gazing into the depths of the Milky Way and beyond. We'll discuss the importance of maintaining Milaythina Wurangkali (Sky Country) and Wurangkili Liwari (Night Sky) of Nipaluna/Hobart and throughout Lutruwita/Tasmania. Come experience the wonder of our dark skies through both cultural stories and astronomical observation at this unique mountaintop gathering. Hot drinks and treats will be provided. We will meet at the Springs in front of Lost Freight Cafe, and then take a short (<400m) walk to a hut. please bring a torch, warm clothing, and a pair of binoculars if you have them.>

Awesome community trail running events on Hobart's iconic mountain! Spanning four events across the year, the Series offers adventure, community spirit and a chance to immerse yourself in nature! At each event, choose from the longer Enduro distance or the shorter Sport distance. The Sport distance is fantastic if you're a trail kid (or have one at home!), if you'd prefer to run a shorter run, or if you're dipping your toes into trail running for the first time. We also have a third category, the Taster, with a 5km "pram-able" course at Tolosa, and a 3km at Rialannah. Our courses feature trails through alpine heaths and past dolerite cliffs, to dry peppermint forests and buttongrass moorland. The Palawa (Tasmanian Aboriginal community) generously welcome and share Kunanyi with trail runners – and for that, we're eternally grateful. Your support crew are very welcome to join us, and we have free BBQs, and games for the kids at our Event hubs, to give you the chance to have a yarn and connect with others in our beautiful trail running community. While you run, kids can also be dropped off at our Bush Play drop-off service, run by Free to Be. BushPlay and Learning. During this group experience, you'll receive personalised tuition from our expert guides during a leisurely lunch break and weather permitting, there may be a chance to go into stealth mode to spot, catch and photograph the elusive wild brown trout on the return walk.
