The Boat House Retreat - Squeaking Point

Bakers Point Campground is a campground within Narawntapu National Park, managed by the Parks and Wildlife Service Tasmania. The Bakers Point campgrounds are unpowered and are available for caravans and camping, with campfires permitted in the designated fireplaces. Bring your pre-cut firewood. Please note that seasonal restrictions may apply. There are accessible campsites, toilets and a picnic area with unsheltered tables. A blackwater dump point is available at the campground. Camping fees apply but bookings are not required. Park passes and camping fees can be paid at the Springlawn Visitor Centre. After-hours campers are able to use a self-registration system at the Springlawn Visitors Centre, but cash is required. Archers Knob is one of Tasmania's 60 Great Short Walks. The 60 Great Short Walks offer the best of Tasmania's day walking opportunities. 3-3.5 hours circuit (9km) via Bakers Beach, or 2–2.5 hours return. Grade 2. This walk not only has birds and a beach, but a superb lookout, with some of the best views in the Park. From the visitor centre meander through a paperbark swamp, on a raised boardwalk, to the Springlawn bird hide. As well as birds, you may see wallabies and pademelons amongst the trees. Then it’s on to 114 m high Archers Knob, which is reached via a well-constructed zigzag track. There are wonderful panoramic views of the beach, Springlawn and beyond. You can retrace your steps back to the visitor centre, or for a longer circuit walk, divert via the signposted track to the pristine sands of Bakers Beach. Exit the beach at access track No. 3 along the road or track 1 back through the bird hide. Wide open plains that are abundant in wildlife create a wonderful location to meet some of Tasmania’s friendliest locals. Narawntapu National Park is a great place to get to know the local marsupials and you’ll likely spot Forester kangaroos, Bennetts​ wallabies and pademelons​ grazing or resting on the open grassland near the visitor centre at Springlawn. Narawntapu’s landscapes are diverse, including coastal heathlands and grasslands, wetlands and dry sclerophyll woodlands. This variety in turn attracts many bird species, including honeyeaters, green rosellas, black cockatoos, raptors, robins, wrens and fantails. Walking within Narawntapu rewards visitors with vistas of long sweeping beaches set against a unique Tasmanian coastal landscape. Enjoy a day of wandering along to Archers Knob for the best views in the Park or take a stroll at dusk around Spring​lawn Nature Walk. For more of a relaxing day, spend time beachcombing along Bakers Beach then stay the night and enjoy some of the best camping in Tasmania.
