The Sea Keeper Bicheno

Overlooking the gorgeous Waubs Bay sits the Sealife Centre Restaurant. First established in 1978 as an aquarium for local fish species such as crayfish, octopus, sharks and even an eel housed in 24 tanks and a large central tank. The early 90s brought growth for Sealife with the addition of the glass-fronted restaurant area, new kitchen and outdoor dining area. Due to licensing and regulations, the aquarium came to a close in 2009 however the restaurant continued to flourish. Moving forward to 2016 the Restaurant was purchased by Peter and Narelle who made the move to Bicheno one year later. Growing up on rural farms in the Northern Tablelands of NSW Peter and Narelle have owned & operated a butcher's shop and several restaurants over a 30-year span. There is a wealth of knowledge between them Peter being a chef and butcher and Narelle running the floor. Coming from country NSW fresh seafood was rarely available so moving to Tasmania has opened many doors to explore the fresh produce right at the doorstep. At the modern-day Sealife Centre Restaurant, they take pride in using the freshest and highest standards of local seafood, beef, lamb, pork, chicken and game meats available. Menu changing with the seasons, with vegan and vegetarian options available. They hope you enjoy your meal, which has been prepared with respect.

Bicheno Surf Life Saving Club was first established in the early 1980's - located at Waubs Beach, Bicheno. It's home to Nippers, Patrols, Emergency Response Team, and hosts events like Australia Day celebrations and the annual ocean swim the 'Devil Swim', a unique open water swim over 1km, 2km and 5km, catering to competitive and social swimmers.

The East Coast Whale Trail is a series of coastal stops you can visit with information signs about the whales and where you have a good chance of seeing them. There are 14 trail sites scattered all along the coast from The Gardens in the larapuna/Bay of Fires area near St Helens in the north to Eaglehawk Neck on the Tasman Peninsula. At each East Coast Whale Trail site, you will find a sign with information and stories about them and big sea views to search for signs of whales. There are binoculars installed at two of the Trail sites to help you get a closer view Whales can throw their fins and flukes, or even their bodies, high out of the water, making great explosions of foam on the sea surface that can be seen from far away. Sometimes they come within a few hundred metres of shore.
