The Hobart Penitentiary was the dark heart of the convict system in Tasmania. Founded as the Hobart Prison Barracks in 1821, the two acre site was the processing centre for more than 50,000 male convicts who arrived in Van Diemen’s Land from 1821 to 1853. The Penitentiary Chapel was built in 1830-34. Its design included 36 cramped solitary cells under its elevated floor. Solitary confinement was a cruel experiment in reforming convicts through sensory deprivation and forced introspection. It could lead to madness. After 1853, the barracks became the Hobart Gaol and two wings of the chapel were refitted as courts, connected to the Gaol by tunnels. The Hobart Town gallows was moved to the site in 1857. Over four hundred people had been executed on the gallows in its original location in central Hobart. A further thirty-two people were hanged at the gallows’ present location between 1857 and 1946. Pick up your lantern and join this 90 minute tour that will bring you face-to-face with the convicts executed on-site, stories of hauntings and the experiences from previous guests. Evolo Room Escape provides an opportunity for you to bring your friends, family and colleagues to an experience like no other! You and your team will be put in a mysterious room filled with Evolo’s innovative and decoratively themed puzzles but you only have 60 minutes to figure out how to escape. There are currently three rooms to choose from at Evolo's Hobart site, Secrets of the Jungle, Obscura and Defusal. Your wits, communication skills and friendships will all be put to the test! Evolo opened its doors as Hobart's first escape room in October 2016 after over two years of planning. Each of Evolo's room escape experiences have been designed and curated by Evolo and can only be found in Hobart, so don't miss out on this experience! Evolo Room Escape is a 10-minute walk from the Hobart central business district and accessible by bus, with a nearby bus stop outside Woolworths supermarket on Campbell Street. There is also street parking nearby the facility. Evolo Room Escape has a second site located at 103 Albert Road, Moonah, which is 10 minutes from the Hobart site by car. The Moonah site is home to two 75 minute escape rooms called Diamond Heist and the Wild West: Roy's Revenge. Plus, a competitive team game known as the Space Race for up to 16 people.

Day one: Journey up Tasmania's east Coast and board a private catamaran that ferries you to the southern end of Maria Island. Arrive with ample time to enjoy the stunning scenery and a walk through the beautiful forests. Indulge in a refreshing swim on a pristine beach and enjoy Tasmanian wine and fresh food. Day two: Walk from Reidle Bay to Shoal Bay to stroll five fabulous beaches. Explore the convict cells at Point Lesueur and visit an ochre pit at Bloodstone Point - one of the original ochre sources for the Tasmanian Aborigines. At camp, put your feet up and enjoy a glass of wine serenaded by native birdsong and sounds of the ocean. Day three: Enjoy the stunning Hopgrounds Beach and the remarkable Painted Cliffs or continue to the summit of Mt Maria for breathtaking views. Finish the day with a sumptuous three-course dinner in a colonial home. Day four: Relax and enjoy the serenity and fascinating history of Darlington on a gentle tour around the convict settlement. The more adventurous can amble through tall Blue Gum forest to convict brickworks, a heritage reservoir and the fossil cliffs. Conclude with a champagne lunch overlooking stunning Freycinet Peninsula.
