Summer Kitchen Bakery is a family run business based, in the Huon Valley, 40min south of Hobart, which has been operating for over 50 years. They specialise in organic woodfired sourdough breads, pastries and cakes using locally available fruit and berries. They also produce a unique range of hand-made wholegrain vegetarian, vegan and organic meat pies, pasties, sausage rolls and empanadas. The sourdough breads and vegetarian pies can be found in selected retail outlets in Hobart and throughout Tasmania. They have a cafe next to the bakehouse which has a lovely courtyard garden seating area and is dog friendly.

A Taste of the Huon’, now in its 32nd year, is a celebration of fine food, wine, beverages, entertainment, arts and crafts from the Huon Valley and Channel region. The event is held at Ranelagh which is only 30 minutes scenic drive south of Hobart. This region produces an abundance of apples and although Tasmania is still recognised as the ‘Apple Isle’, cherries, mushrooms, salmon, vineyards, berries and truffles are also farmed in the area and along with much more, all promoted at the Festival. Entertainment is always at its very best, with each year bringing a new programme to enjoy. And most importantly there will be loads of free attractions and activities to keep the children occupied. This Festival is one of the most popular regional events in Tasmania and draws over 20,000 local, intrastate and interstate visitors through its 2 day programme. This event is run by a voluntary committee with proceeds being injected back into the community via funding of groups who volunteer on the day.
