The East Coast Whale Trail is a series of coastal stops you can visit with information signs about the whales and where you have a good chance of seeing them. There are 14 trail sites scattered all along the coast from The Gardens in the larapuna/Bay of Fires area near St Helens in the north to Eaglehawk Neck on the Tasman Peninsula. At each East Coast Whale Trail site, you will find a sign with information and stories about them and big sea views to search for signs of whales. There are binoculars installed at two of the Trail sites to help you get a closer view Whales can throw their fins and flukes, or even their bodies, high out of the water, making great explosions of foam on the sea surface that can be seen from far away. Sometimes they come within a few hundred metres of shore.

Governors Bicheno is located on the edge of the shopping strip of Bicheno. This beautiful little café serves amazing food for breakfast, brunch or just a cuppa in the mornings. You can sit outside in the sun or inside with its stylish interior. Open for breakfast, brunches and morning teas. They have many vegetarian options available. You can get a takeaway if you want to sit by one of the stunning beaches. Offering a new night service Friday's and Saturdays The café is definitely family-friendly, and your pooch is made welcome as well. The service is amazing, and you will definitely enjoy the food and your visit. Walk into town on one of the many walking tracks and treat yourself before continuing on another walk. Walks to the Bicheno Blowhole, Whalers Lookout, Waubs Beach and Redbill Beach are all only short strolls from this lovely little café. Have breakfast before exploring the area more, visiting Freycinet and Douglas Apsley National Parks. Wineglass Bay and Cape Tourville walks are only just over half an hour away. After a night viewing the penguins in Bicheno this makes a perfect place to come for brunch. Only an hour's drive away is the town of St Helens, which is the gateway to Binalong Bay, Bay of Fires, Pyengana Dairy and St Columba Falls.

Switching it on in the Off-Season Bicheno will once again play host to a free event — Bicheno Beams. Fresh from winning Gold at the 2025 Tasmanian Tourism Awards, Bicheno Beams is a family-friendly celebration of light, offering yet another exciting reason to visit our must-stay destination. Each evening, spectacular music accompanies powerful beams of light shining into the night sky, creating a memorable experience for all ages. Every night at 6:30pm Show length: approximately 15 minutes Bicheno Beams is fast becoming an unmissable annual event, drawing locals and visitors together to celebrate the place they love. You'll be welcomed by a friendly team of local volunteers who will guide you to the viewing area. Come for two nights and enjoy two different, alternating shows.
