Hartz Mountains National Park

  • Hartz Mountains National Park
  • Hartz Mountains National Park

The Hartz Mountains at the southern end of the Huon Valley are part of the Tasmanian World Heritage Wilderness Area.

A range of walking tracks lead through subalpine woodlands to ice-carved crags, lakes and alpine moorlands.

On clear days there are superb views east to the sea and west into the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.

The Waratah Walk takes just a few minutes to reach a lookout with sweeping forest views.

The Arve Falls Walk takes you through alpine fields and woodlands to the edge of a plateau overlooking waterfalls and the valley below.

There are no camping facilities at the park but camping is allowed 500 metres from any road.

Day facilities are basic, with a toilet, running water and a picnic shelter near the entrance to the Waratah Lookout track with an open fireplace, gas barbecue and tables.

A range of commercial accommodation can be found in any of the towns in the Huon Valley, including Huonville, Geeveston and Southport.

The weather can change suddenly at any time of year, so be prepared for cold conditions, even in summer.
