Zines in Your Hands Workshop

Collage of cut-out magazine letters promoting an upcoming zine-making workshop.
George Town Council, together with ConnectCurateCreate, invites community members of all ages to take part in Zines in your hands, a creative workshop designed to spark storytelling and imagination. This hands-on session guides participants through the process of designing and making their own mini-magazine, known as a zine, to capture memories, recipes, legends or personal passions in a tangible keepsake. What makes this workshop unique is its inclusive, intergenerational approach, where children, young people, parents and grandparents can create side by side. The session is led by Dr Tim Butcher, an experienced storyteller and founder of ConnectCurateCreate, whose projects have reached from regional Australia to international stages such as Tate in London. With all materials provided and no prior experience needed, the workshop ensures accessibility for everyone, while offering a playful environment where cutting, folding, drawing and layout design combine to bring stories to life. Located in the Macquarie Room at the George Town Memorial Hall Complex, the workshop is just a short stroll from the waterfront, cafes and the Bass and Flinders Maritime Museum. Participants are encouraged to discover the town's vibrant cultural offerings and book their place to be part of this inspiring creative experience.
