Cradle Mountain Dove Lake Day Tour

Departing Launceston at 7:30am, this full-day guided tour takes you into the heart of the World Heritage-listed Cradle Mountain–Lake St Clair National Park. Travel through the scenic Meander Valley and along the Great Western Tiers to the town of Sheffield, famous for its vibrant murals depicting the region's history. Continuing via Gowrie Park and the Forth River Gorge, the landscape shifts from farmland to lush rainforest, alpine heath, and button grass plains. At Cradle Mountain, one of Tasmania's most iconic landmarks, enjoy a guided visit to Dove Lake. Take in views of the dramatic dolerite peaks, walk to Glacier Rock, and explore the lakeshore, with opportunities to see Kathleen Falls on clear days. Visit the historic Waldheim Chalet and take a short 20-minute walk through Weindorfer's Rainforest, where your guide will introduce the unique ecology of this ancient environment. On the return journey, stop in Sheffield to visit the Honey Farm and explore the township. Return to Launceston in the early evening, approximately 5.30-6.00pm. The tour includes lunch. Departing Cradle Mountain Our professional driver/guide will collect you from your Cradle Mountain accommodation at dusk. Once all the group are all on board, we will travel into the Cradle Mountain National Park to Ronny Creek to begin our exploration of the area. We leave the bus with our hand-held torches and spotlights and quietly and slowly walk into Mt Kate Hut area to see the nocturnal animals, including wombats, wallabies, possums and sometimes even a spotted quoll that have commenced their nighttime feeding. We stroll along the Cradle Valley boardwalks and perhaps even the start of the Overland Track in search of nocturnal feeding animals. We leave the fun of the animal viewing at Ronny Creek, and we travel to Waldheim Chalet where we take a short walk in the ancient king billy pine Weindorfers Forest, as we search for the more elusive nocturnal animals who are commencing their nighttime forging activities. Your bus will then return to your accommodation after a memorable and informative 2-hour tour.
