Sea and Ship
New processes apply for travellers arriving into Tasmania. The areas where travellers have spent time prior to arriving in Tasmania determine the conditions for their entry into the State. The latest information on coming to Tasmania is available at www.coronavirus.tas.gov.au/coming-to-tasmania
Spirit of Tasmania is one of Australia's most iconic travel experiences, operating sailings across Bass Strait between Melbourne and Devonport on Tasmania's north coast.
The twin ships depart from both ports at 7:30pm, arriving at 6:00am the following morning with disembarkation commencing from 6:30am. During periods of high demand, Spirit of Tasmania also operates day sailings, departing from each port at 9:00am and arriving the same day at 6:00pm.
Discover The New Spirit of Tasmania
In August 2015, the two vessels underwent a massive refurbishment. With fresh modern interiors and stylish new facilities there’s no better time to drive on and discover Spirit of Tasmania.
On board, three new bars showcase the very best Tasmanian wines, ciders and beers. Tasmanian Market Kitchen offers a selection of marketplace favourites, including a signature dish of the day, and a convenience store stocks fresh sandwiches and snacks.
Two cinemas showcase the latest movie releases. There’s also an interactive games zone and children’s play area as well as a tranquil reading room. On day sailings there is fun for the whole family with disco bingo, trivia and live music.
No matter your budget, there are accommodation options to suit all travellers. The fully refurbished Deluxe Cabins come complete with a queen-size bed, private ensuite, flat-screen TV, and ocean views. Twin Cabins come with two single beds, suitable for two people, and Four Bed Cabins have two sets of bunk beds, perfect for a family or group of friends. Recliners are also available and are a great, low-cost alternative.
Take Everything You Need
The Spirit of Tasmania accommodates all types of vehicles including those with trailers and caravans. Cyclists can conveniently bring their bikes as well. Passengers can load their cars full of luggage and holiday gear including golf clubs, fishing rods and camping equipment. The best part - aside from avoiding all the bus, rail and taxi costs - is that as soon as you arrive, you can drive straight off into your touring holiday.
Got a furry friend? You can even bring your beloved pet along for the journey. Domestic animals such as dogs, cats, rabbits, even guinea pigs and ferrets, are all welcome on board Spirit of Tasmania. Kennels are located on ventilated decks and fresh water is supplied throughout the sailing.
