The Signalman's cottage built in 1897, which is now the established restaurant, capturing stunning 180 degree views across Southern Tasmania, from the city of Hobart to the Tasman Peninsula and beyond. Originally the site of one of a chain of signal stations that linked Hobart Town with Port Arthur, Mount Nelson is now the location for a restaurant, picnic area and lookout and is only a ten-minute drive south of Hobart. The Truganini Reserve extends on from the signal station and protects an area of native bushland on the south-east side of Mount Nelson.
