Tarraleah Estate is located in Tasmania’s central highlands, a two hour drive north-west of Hobart (127 kilometres), a perfect mid-point for those travelling to Strahan or Cradle Mountain.
The private estate provides self-contained accommodation options featuring 16 Art Deco Cottages, a luxury Lodge, the Scholar’s House, The clifftop House, Highlander Cabins and Caravan Park.
During their stay, guests can learn about Tarraleah’s intriguing Tasmanian history, built originally as a town to house families stationed there during the building of Tasmania’s Hydro-electric Scheme.
The 1930's cottages have been fully refurbished keeping their original Art Deco design, warmth and charm. They feature Tasmanian-designed timber furniture, polished floorboards, warm fires, queen-size beds and a fully-equipped kitchen and dining areas.
The Highlander Arms is open on select evenings for a dinner November to April so be sure to ring ahead and speak to one of our friendly staff to secure your booking for dinner.
During their stay guests have a choice of a wide range of outdoor activities including bush walks, kayaking, fly fishing, mountain biking or just admiring our Highland Cows.

Three or four bedrooms, self contained art deco period cottages, with large kitchen, lounge room with fireplace, laundry, modern bathroom. Lovingly refurbished to the 1930s - 1940s era. The cottages are perfect for families, couples, friends travelling together, special interest groups.
