Tas-Saff is the saffron hub south of the equator. Terry, Nicky and Patrick Noonan original sea-changers from Sydney in the late '80s, pioneered the saffron industry in Australia. You will find Tas-Saff perched high on the hill overlooking Glaziers Bay in the idyllic Huon Valley south of Hobart. Saffron is harvested each year during April and May. The lilac crocus flowers must be picked early each day before the sun comprises the integrity of the saffron. At night, they sit like little rockets with the tip poking through the soil, then they shoot up a few centimetres high in the morning when the sun comes out, hence their name, the Flower of the Sun. Spice collected from the fiery red stigma of the lilac crocus flowers has been valued for its culinary and medicinal properties for thousands of years. Tas-Saf offers free saffron gin and saffron tea tastings. The Tas-Saff farm is open 10 am - 5 pm for farm gate visits nearly all year.

Spectacular views wherever you look are a feature at Hartzview looking across vineyard slopes, and Port Cygnet to the Hartz mountains. Enjoy tastings from estate grown hand-picked Pinot Noir, Sauvignon blanc and chardonnays. Tastings also of unique preservative-free fruit fortified wines and liqueurs. All are made from 100% high-quality Tasmanian fruit. Ranging from the dryer Blackcurrant Port (similar in style to a Tawny Port), Blackberry, Cherry, Blueberry, Raspberry, Tasmanian Cassis and Spiced Apple Liqueur Mead. Photo opportunities abound, often with bumblebees or take a stroll through the self-guided Heritage-listed pickers huts and be refreshed with the clean air and listen to the stillness. The Hartzview Vineyard Heritage listed Pickers Hut Village is at Gardners Bay, in Tasmania's South. Take a stroll into history as you enjoy a self-guided discovery walk of the seven different restored small fruit pickers huts that families lived in during the picking season and established in the 1920s. During World War Two, some huts were home to Italian prisoners of war, who replaced agricultural workers serving overseas. You can also visit the cellar door which is open every day and taste from the estate Reserve Pinot Noir, Chardonnays and the large range of preservative free fruit Ports, Liqueurs (Blackcurrant, Blackberry, Cherry, Blueberry, Raspberry, Tasmanian Cassis) and Mead. The Cellar Door is open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm. Closed Sundays and public holidays. Closed from June, July, August Gardner's Bay is a 45-minute drive (46 km) south of Hobart.
