Camping Ground
A 20-minute drive east of Queenstown, Lake Burbury Camping Ground is located on the edge of the World Heritage Wilderness Area. Named after Stanley Burbury, the first Australian-born Governor of Tasmania, the 54 square-kilometre lake was manmade for hydro-electricity production in the early 1990s. Lake Burbury Camping Ground provides two good grassed sites next to Lake Burbury and is suitable for tents, caravans, campervans, motor homes and large vehicles. No need to book. A boat ramp and public toilets are available. Carry your own water and firewood. Have a picnic or use the coin-operated barbecues, fish in the lake or enjoy water sports such as kayaking and canoeing. Campsites are available for a small daily fee and a caretaker is on site.
