Kettering sails quietly through its days, swelling as each ferry docks and then settling back into tranquillity.

Yacht-filled Oyster Cove Marina is the heart of the town, with the Bruny Island ferry muscling out from a crowd of boats to regularly cross the D'Entrecasteaux Channel.

It’s a short drive south from Kettering to the restaurants and wineries around Woodbridge, while in town there’s the Oyster Cove Inn, a cafe and sweet handmade treats at Nutpatch Chocolates.

Where

Kettering is a 30min drive (32km) south of Hobart.

Insider tip
  • An easy 1km walking trail to Kettering Point leaves from close to the ferry terminal, with good views across the channel to Bruny Island.
