Engulfed by bushfire in 2013, the quiet fishing town of Dunalley has well and truly risen from the ashes. 

Located on the drive to Port Arthur, at the point where the Forestier Peninsula and Turrakana / Tasman Peninsula connect to the rest of Tasmania, Dunalley straddles the impressive Denison Canal, dug by hand in 1905 to link the two surrounding bays and significantly reduce the travel time between the east coast and Hobart.

Just south of the canal, the Bangor Vineyard Shed serves wine and food with a view of one of Tasmania’s most historically rich properties, while Dunalley Bay Distillery offers seaside tastings of boutique gin and whisky. In town, the fish and chips at the Dunalley Seaside Market (currently undergoing renovations and due to reopen in mid-September) are an essential pitstop.


Dunalley is a 50min drive (56km) east of Hobart.
