Aladdin | Victorian State Ballet | Albert Hall

The Off Season
Ballet dancer leaps in ornate costume beneath stone arches, sunlight behind.
A spectacular, lush retelling of Aladdin's timeless story. Much loved by children and adults alike, Aladdin and his adventures come to life in this brilliant ballet production from the Victorian State Ballet. With lush costumes, breathtaking music, and beautiful choreography, the ballet tells a wonderful story of intense love, burning passion, and bold expression, filled with fantasy and tragedy. Aladdin reminds us of the importance of being true to ourselves, and the peace that comes from living our lives with honesty and authenticity. Created by Michelle Cassar de Sierra and Martin Sierra for the Victorian State Ballet, this production promises to become a favourite with Australian audiences. Heavily inspired by Carl Davis' score and their love of Scheherazade's tale, the Sierras have crafted a unique ballet that introduces even more magic when the Genie of the Lamp emerges from a cave of dancing jewels. Set in ancient Arabia, the production portrays Aladdin as the son of a deceased Chinese tailor and beautifully incorporates elements inspired by the Arab world, alongside segments from the classic ballet La Bayadère.
