Artist talk by Maggie May Jeffries

Billy Bramble by Maggie May Jeffries, botanical oil painting
Join them for an evening with Maggie May Jeffries, leading Tasmanian artist-educator of the Midwinter Masterclass. Guests will be welcomed on arrival with a glass of premium Tasmanian wine. Maggie's practice is grounded in memory, childhood wonder, and close observation of the natural world. Her botanical oil paintings layer plants, light, and shadow to explore remembering places and experiencing the environment. Through a process she describes as "re-wilding" her works evolve intuitively through collected natural forms, sensory experience, and time spent in nature. Alongside her studio practice, Maggie is engaged in collaborative and interdisciplinary work spanning painting, digital media and performance, continually expanding how her practice and ideas are expressed. The talk will be followed by an open Q&A, offering attendees the opportunity to ask questions directly and engage in conversation with the artist. Attendees will also be invited to view the Midwinter Masterclass studio, meet participating artists, and see how the workshop environment has been unfolding in real time - offering a rare insight into a working creative process. At Oatlands Art Retreat, they create opportunities for Tasmanian artists to lead, participate in, and learn from artist-led masterclasses. Their programs support artists at different stages of their practice to share knowledge, develop professionally, and engage in meaningful creative exchange.
