Maritime Museum presents David Neilson's 'Antarctica is Melting'

Soft light emperor penguins
Visit Maritime Museum Tasmania for a free entry weekend during both Beaker Street's Hobartica and the Australian Antarctic Festival. This August, they're looking south with 'Antarctica is Melting', a photographic exhibition by Australian wilderness photographer David Neilson. Drawn from six journeys to Antarctica and the sub-Antarctic between 1990 and 2009, Neilson's black and white photographs capture ice, rock, sea and sky in striking contrast. The exhibition explores Antarctica as a place of beauty, scale and change. These images show a landscape that can feel distant, but one closely connected to Hobart through ships, science, research, expeditioners and the working waterfront. Come in from the winter cold, spend time with David Neilson's photographs, and explore the maritime stories that connect Hobart with the south.
