For the ultimate Tasmanian seafood experience, head to Lobster Shack Tasmania, a casual waterfront seafood café perched above the orange lichen-covered rocks of Bicheno's Gulch fishing harbour. Owners Sara and Marcus have seafood in their blood. Marcus launches his fishing boat just metres from the Shack, while Sara and the team welcome visitors to enjoy the catch with spectacular views across the ocean. Food at the Shack is kept simple: fresh and full of flavour. Southern Rock Lobster (crayfish) is served with lemon garlic butter, natural or with a cheesy mornay sauce to let its naturally sweet meat shine, while the menu also features seafood chowder, Tasmanian salmon, fresh oysters, seafood dishes and seriously good fish and chips with house-made tartare sauce. They are known for their famous lobster rolls: not to be missed on any visit to Bicheno! They pride themselves on offering gluten free options and use a separate fryer for gluten free cooking. Take a seat on the wrap-around deck overlooking the pristine ocean, or visit the fisherman's lookout upstairs, where photographs share stories from the early days of Tasmania's commercial fishing industry. Fresh seafood is also available from the display cabinet, including cooked whole Southern Rock Lobster, with live lobsters also held in tanks on-site.
