Located on the edge of the hamlet of Longley, the property is within reach of all conveniences of the urban world (10 mins to Kingston 20 mins to Hobart), yet far away in all other senses. Nestled here in the foothills of kunyani/Mt Wellington is a sanctum of calm and an invitation to lose yourself in it. When you’re ready to brave the world, the Huon Valley, Bruny Island, Wellington Park, untold numbers of waterfalls and southern beaches are at your doorstep. Curated by travellers for travellers, you’ll appreciate some of the details to make sure your stay is as comfortable as possible. Hand-built from mud brick and local recycled timbers, character oozes from every notch and nook of this cosy cottage. Poet’s Ode offers a basic kitchenette complete with a coffee machine, microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster and accoutrements. Primarily it sleeps 2 persons, however, we can add a single trundle bed for a child or that special “third wheel”. With stars on the screen and stars overhead, a glass of wine and a rug, you may not want to leave your private movie theatre to go to bed. The Donkey Shed Theatre is rustic charm embodied with a 4k mini-projector, it allows you to direct cast your favourite entertainment apps, movies, TV shows, etc from your own device.

Twenty five minutes from CBD A short distance to rejoin the highway, with a nearby hotel offering meals if desired. Camp fire permitted, there is some wood here at the present Guests must be fully self-contained with their own toilet and shower facilities, and all waste must be taken upon departure. Pets are allowed but must remain on a leash. Update: I can now offer a tent spot with the new compost toilet in working order. Longley is 30 minutes from Hobart and can be reached either via the Huon Road, which continues past Kunanyi/Mount Wellington, or via the highway through Kingston.

The accommodation consists of two architecturally designed individual 'Pods', named The Vanilla Pod and The Pea Pod. Situated amongst a rural setting, with glimpses to Mount Wellington and amazing views to The Derwent Estuary beyond, guests appreciate the close proximity to Hobart and all of its attractions whilst being in the secluded quiet of the surrounds. Both pods are equipped with king-sized beds, which can also be configured as a twin, fluffy towels, hair dryer, composting toilet, shower and basin, iron and ironing board, coat stand and hangers, TV, heater, WiFi, books, magazines, some games and a comprehensive guest information book. The kitchenette includes a kettle, toaster, bar fridge, microwave, and all the trimmings. Guests are welcome to bring their own breakfast goodies. Tea and coffee is complimentary. The pods have bi-folding doors, which open up the entire front onto sweeping decks and are beautifully decorated.
