Mona Like a Rockstar

Museum like a rockstar. Sunglasses optional. Jump on the Mona Roma ferry at 10.15am for a late breakfast in the luxurious Posh Pit (complimentary drinks, tiny food). On landing at Mona, flash your credentials and be escorted to the Void Bar, where you’ll make friends with the bartender (helpful later) and cop a cocktail to prepare you for the nearby galleries. After some art, swan into the museum’s Faro Bar and Restaurant for an excessive, luxuriant feast from rockstar executive chef Vinnie—including fancy matched drinks from Mona’s famed wine bunker and exclusive access to some neuron-tingling James Turrell light artworks. Suitably addled / prepared, you’ll explore David Walsh’s sprawling underground collection of art and antiquities (expanding your rockstar brain) before slipping back onto the ferry (further snacks, drinks) and landing back in Hobart while the night is still young.

Secluded in very private bushland on the same Berriedale peninsula as the world famous Museum of Old and New Art, Mona’s eight super-flash luxury pavilions are perfect for those who like their luxe accommodation to be both stimulating and relaxing. Aside from their shared—stunning—sunrise-aspect views of the River Derwent, each pavilion is uniquely adorned with spenny artworks, bespoke furniture by Tasmanian designers, and furnishings from the likes of Philippe Starck, Patricia Urquiola and Ron Arad (plus the odd bit of pre-Columbian sculpture). As well as the usual niceties—spas, great sheets, fluffy bathrobes, premo minibar featuring wines made on the estate—guests receive a complimentary Moorilla wine tasting and daily breakfast in the lavish Source Restaurant. There are several other bars and restaurants on site, too. A stay in the pavilions also gets you priority access to Mona—a bucket-list Tasmanian destination that’s only made better by gloating that you stayed there as well.

Glenn Moore Accessible Units offer accessible self-contained accommodation for people with spinal cord injury and physical disability. Consisting of two spacious units, each with ceiling hoists. The main bedroom in each unit has an adjustable queen-sized bed, the second bedroom has two king-size beds, a large open living area, an accessible kitchen, low-level cupboards and easy access bathroom. The units are air-conditioned with undercover parking and free wi-fi. Glenn Moore Units are located close to transport and shopping Centres and are within 15 minutes of the Hobart CBD and only 10 minutes to MONA.

Derwent Vista is a self-contained waterfront holiday house at Austins Ferry, in Tasmania's South. Set on the banks of the River Derwent, it is ideal for business or pleasure visits. All main rooms have views of the river and Mt Direction. The house has a large riverside garden dominated by an ancient Bhutan Cyprus hedge and a very old elm planted by Lady Franklin. Derwent Vista is fully furnished and accommodates up to nine guests. The house features three bedrooms, the master bedroom with ensuite, and a separate bathroom with a separate toilet and wash basin. The modern fully-equipped kitchen has wonderful views and there is a separate laundry. On the deck, there is a barbecue. A dryer, television, stereo and free wireless internet are all available for your use. Fishing gear is provided, while bicycles, canoes and sailboards are available on request. The local yacht club and launching ramp are close by, as are shops and access to public transport. Austins Ferry is close to a number of attractions including Bonorong Wildlife Park and a number of golf and bowls clubs. Derwent Vista is around a 15-minute drive (16 km) north of Hobart.
