ArtStart: The Next Generation

The Off Season
A student artist shows her work to a QVMAG staff member at ArtStart 2024.
ArtStart returns to QVMAG in 2025, celebrating the creativity of northern Tasmania's youngest artists. Open to students from Kindergarten to Grade 6, each ArtStart exhibition is guided by a unique theme designed to inspire young artistic minds. In 2025, students will respond to this year's NAIDOC Week theme: The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy. NAIDOC Week 2025 marks a powerful milestone: 50 years of honouring and elevating Indigenous voices, culture, and resilience. This year's theme celebrates not only the achievements of the past but the bright future ahead, empowered by the strength of our young leaders, the vision of our communities, and the legacy of our ancestors. Students are encouraged to explore and experiment with pattern, texture, and materials, creating works in any medium, including drawing, painting, photography, and mixed media. A long-standing QVMAG initiative, ArtStart nurtures children's engagement with the visual arts and is made possible through the generous support of the Terry and Nan Woodward ArtStart legacy.
