Beethoven’s Fifth | Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra

Monochrome photo of a conductor against a black backdrop. His baton is lifted behind his head.
da da da Daaaah...! Beethoven’s Fifth is more than a piece of music – it’s a cultural phenomenon. And while its dramatic opening is the most recognisable hook in all orchestral music, the symphony has plenty to offer beyond its first four notes. It’s an electrifying orchestral experience that will immerse you, culminating in the most radiant of victories. The high drama of the Fifth is prefaced by one of the most gorgeous collections of songs in the repertoire – Gustav Mahler’s Rückert Lieder, performed by illustrious Swedish soprano Camilla Tilling, making her Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra debut. And before that take a dip in Restless Oceans by contemporary English composer Anna Clyne, which was inspired by Audre Lorde’s poem A Woman Speaks. In the words of the composer ‘My intention was to write a defiant piece that embraces the power of women.’
