Styx Valley of the Giants: Big Tree Immersion - Beaker Street Festival 2026

An image of the Styx Valley
Step into the Styx Valley, home to some of the tallest hardwood trees on Earth. Walk among giants and hear a firsthand account of how close they came to disappearing. This unforgettable journey into Lutruwita/Tasmania's ancient giant forests is led by two of the people who helped save them. Wander beneath towering mountain ash trees more than 90 metres tall, through mossy rainforest gullies and among some of the most carbon-dense forests on the planet, while hearing the extraordinary story of the decades-long campaign to protect these forests from logging and secure World Heritage protection. Along the way, you'll hear tales from the frontline of Tasmania's forest movement, including tree-sits suspended high above the forest floor and the legendary stunt that transformed a giant Styx eucalypt into the world's tallest Christmas tree to draw international attention to the destruction of old-growth forests. This is a rare opportunity to experience one of Tasmania's great environmental success stories with some of the original forest campaigners who helped save it. This event is part of Beaker Street Festival 2026
