The Second Act: A Wedding - Beaker Street Festival 2026

An image of Ryk Goddard on stage at Beaker Street Festival
Dearly beloved, gather with us to celebrate the marriage of neuroscience and nuptials. You are invited to a wedding between two Tasmanians embarking on their own second act. The event kicks off with a fascinating conversation on brain plasticity and the science of second chances, with Radio National's Tegan Taylor and neuroscientist Dr Matt Kirkcaldie. Then take your seat at the wedding of ABC Hobart's beloved Ryk Goddard to Mylinda Purtell (née Sheppard), in celebration of life's Second Act: a new chapter, a fresh start, and of course a party! Yes, it's a real wedding. Yes, there will be cake. Every aspect of the wedding is created by Tasmanian artists and artisans… and you! You can get involved as a 'florunteer' contributing to the floral display, interact with Alex Moss digital artworks, and dance the night away with Beaker Street house band Stevie and the Bunsen Burners. Grab your dancing shoes, pop on your most glamorous red or pink outfits, and come share in the love. This event is part of Beaker Street Festival 2026
