Meredith House and Mews at Swansea on Tasmania's East Coast offers heritage bed and breakfast accommodation in a convict-built 1853 home with modern touches such as free Wi-Fi. The six ensuite rooms in the convict-built Georgian-style National Trust-classified house are decorated in warm, period colours and furnished with antique and hand-crafted red cedar furniture. There are views over the historic seaside village of Swansea, and Great Oyster Bay to the Freycinet Peninsula. A wide veranda provides cool shade and the house is surrounded by gardens, with barbecue facilities and a guest laundry. Adjacent to the main house there are four self-contained mews-style studio apartments, three with spas. The town itself is home to the East Coast Heritage Museum, which highlights the heritage of the region. There are several excellent restaurants and Cafes to showcase the produce of the area. Within easy reach are the walks and wildlife of Freycinet National Park or Maria Island, the East Coast Natureworld, Bicheno's popular Penguin tour, the cool-climate vineyards of the East Coast, a string of fine beaches and several golf courses. Meredith House has been an accommodation establishment since 1901 and continues its fine tradition of hospitality.

The Water view rooms have queen-size beds, private verandahs, water views, ensuites (with walk-in showers) and reverse cycle air conditioning. The Court Yard room is on the ground floor at the rear of the house, with a king bed, walk-in shower, reverse cycle air conditioning and private courtyard. Serving traditional seaside-style bed and breakfast comes complete with full 'English breakfast' (including haggis and black pudding for the more adventurous) and complimentary port. The Apartment is on the first floor, with a separate bedroom (king-size bed), kitchen/lounge, bathroom (with walk-in shower), washing machine, reverse cycle air conditioning and large deck with water views. Our central location makes it an easy walk to all amenities or take the delightful walking track around Waterloo Point.
