Table Cape Lighthouse
Perched high above Bass Strait, the Table Cape Lighthouse is one of the North West's great coastal lookouts. Follow the winding road up onto the volcanic plateau and you'll find sweeping views across the water, along the coastline and back towards Wynyard. First lit in 1888, the lighthouse has kept watch over this stretch of coast for more than a century. While the lighthouse interior not open to visitors, the exterior and the surrounding reserve is worth the trip at any time of year. Wander along the clifftop, take in the fresh sea air and keep an eye out for whales, seabirds and passing ships. Come in spring and the scene changes again, when Table Cape's famous tulip fields burst into colour. It's a spectacular time to visit, but there's plenty to enjoy beyond tulip season too. The Table Cape Lighthouse is a particularly good place to stop, take a breath and watch the coast do its thing.
