Step into the shadows with Tasmanian Photography Tours as Dark Mofo returns to Tasmania in 2027 and descends on the city with its eerie glow and pagan heartbeat. Join in for a gritty, immersive photo walk along the waterfront—where fire meets fog, and art bleeds into the night. You'll chase neon reflections in puddles, frame ghostly silhouettes in red light, and hunt for the raw, unscripted moments that only reveal themselves under cover of darkness. This is for photographers drawn to the strange, the cinematic, the barely lit. You'll explore long exposures, low light techniques, and visual storytelling in one of the most atmospheric settings Tasmania has to offer. Expect a sensory overload of visual stimuli. Whether you're into street, abstract, or low-light landscape, this workshop will push your creativity into the unknown. Epic Landscapes Await There are places in Tasmania that feel untouched by time. The Southwest is one of them. Ancient forests cling to the mountains, waterfalls disappear into deep valleys and the landscape shifts between every shade of green. Mist moves through the peaks. Fungi emerges from the forest floor. Light breaks through the clouds and, for a few minutes, the entire landscape changes. Over four days, we'll head deep into Tasmania's Southwest National Park, exploring the locations that have made this one of our favourite places to photograph. We'll visit iconic landscapes and seek out lesser-known locations that reward those willing to look beyond the obvious. Our base is Pedder Wilderness Lodge, surrounded by mountains, forest and the waters of Lake Pedder. From here, we'll make the most of the changing winter light, with early starts, golden hour shoots and plenty of time to work each location. But this is more than a landscape photography tour. It's four days in one of the world's great wilderness regions, with local photographers who know the landscape, a structured learning program, dedicated editing sessions, premium accommodation and exceptional food. A chance to slow down, explore deeper and photograph Tasmania at its wildest.

Few places offer the photographic diversity of Tasmania's East Coast. Over four days, they'll take you to some of the best locations they've discovered through years of exploring the region. Moss-covered myrtle forests. Dramatic waterfalls. Granite coves and crystal-clear turquoise water. And the distinctive red lichen-covered boulders of the Bay of Fires. Every location offers something different. We'll chase first light along empty beaches, slow down and work on composition in ancient forests, experiment with shutter speeds and filters at waterfalls and make the most of the ever-changing coastal light. As photographers themselves, the East Coast is a place we keep coming back to. There is always another location to discover, another composition to find and another moment when the light transforms the landscape. To keep the experience personal, the tour is limited to just six guests and two instructors. That means more one-on-one tuition, individual feedback and the opportunity to learn from two photographers with different styles, experience and perspectives. The Miena cider gum is an iconic eucalypt found only around the edges of frosty low-lying areas within a 20-kilometre radius of Miena. There are only a small number of Miena cider gum stands left. Since the early 1990s, it has faced a gradual decline in numbers, leading to its current listing as an endangered species. Climate change is the overarching threat to the Miena cider gum as it is sensitive to drought and the warmer temperatures are decreasing its resilience. The Miena cider gum is an iconic tree of Tasmania's Central Highlands that has evolved to be the most frost tolerant of the eucalypts. It has a rich cultural history of use by the Tasmanian Aboriginal people, who would drink the rich sugary sap or 'cider' that leaks from crevices in the trunk. Tasmanian Photography Tours has secured special access to locations that allow us to carefully capture the haunting silhouettes of the perished and also enjoy moments with the few still remaining. With a focus on spending time amongst the cider gums, this tour suits those who love capturing trees and want to pay homage to these beauties while they still exist.

At the edge of Tasmania, Bruny Island feels like another world. Cliffs drop into the Southern Ocean, beaches stretch into the distance and the light can change the landscape in minutes. Over four days, we'll explore the island with time to slow down and photograph it properly. From the Bruny Island Lighthouse and the sweeping views at The Neck to the open coastline of Cloudy Bay, each location offers a different story and a new opportunity to work with the light. You'll head out before sunrise, stay out for golden hour and wait for the moments that make a photograph. Along the way, we'll search for one of Bruny's most elusive subjects, the white wallaby. When the sun disappears, the photography continues. From our accommodation, we'll turn our cameras to the night sky, looking for the Milky Way and, if the conditions align, the Aurora Australis. This is Bruny Island beyond the postcard. Four days of exploration, photography and chasing the light.
