Learn to love winter as a Fragrance Forager

Apply now

Your Winternship

In Tasmania, the coastal winter air carries a saltiness that feels fresher, as if the sea breeze has been intensified by the chill. Your job as the Fragrance Forager Wintern is to help bottle up that silent scent of the season. Candidates with a keen sense of smell will be favoured.

You'll arrive ready to begin a morning of foraging in the nearby bush. Amongst the trees, tap into your senses and make the most of one in particular: what can you smell?  Learn to identify the differences between Tasmanian Sassafras and Tasmanian Mountain Pepper as you make your way through the forest, carefully gathering stems for delicate distillation.

With your tote bag filled, swap your beanie for a lab coat, as you'll be getting into the nitty gritty of perfume making. You'll be shown how to distil your foraged botanicals into a scent, leaving a wonderful waft of winter in your wake. With steady hands, transfer your potent potion into a bottle and dream about who you’ll be gifting your fresh Eau de Tasmania.

Once you've bottled your chosen blend, relax in an armchair in front of a roaring fire with ocean views. It's time to give your nose a rest and indulge in a foraged sassafras leaf tea with kunzea shortbread. Enjoy a spritz of your freshly made fragrance, but make sure to ration it till the end of the season!

With a bottle of Tassie top notes and an appreciation for the smells of the forest floor, you'll understand why embracing Tasmania’s winter perfume makes perfect sense.
