Make your way to Mona (Museum of Old and New Art) for peculiar and thought-provoking exhibitions (open Thursday – Monday each week).
Swap food for thought for the real thing. Head to Hobart’s historic waterfront for a late lunch and warm up with a bowl of creamy smoked warehou chowder served in a freshly baked cob loaf at Mures Lower Deck.
End the day on the water with Tasmanian Wild Seafood Adventures’ Sea to Sky dinner cruise. Board at Margate with a hot gin cider warming your hands as the winter dark sets in, then glide through the D’Entrecasteaux Channel feasting on seafood and views of the night sky.
Back on dry land, settle into 429 Apartments & Suites for the night.
Day 2: Hobart to Huon Valley
Check out then head to nearby GiGi’s diner for breakfast, included with your winter stay.
Start the day with a short drive back to Margate Marina (déjà vu anyone?), 30min south of Hobart. Then embark on a morning sauna cruise with Kuuma Nature Sauna and brave a bracing cold dip.
Feeling rejuvenated, drive on to the Huon Valley.
Pull into Willie Smith’s Apple Shed for a hearty winter lunch, washed down with hot spiced cider and a slice of apple pie.
Next stop is Lonnavale, where you’ll be pulled at speed through forest trails by a team of 10 high-energy Siberian huskies with Sled Dog Adventures Tasmania.
Pass back through Huonville to pick up supplies for dinner and breakfast before heading south to Dover.
Retreat to Driftwood Cottages, cook up a storm in your self-contained kitchen and cosy up by the fire overlooking the bay.
Day 3: Huon Valley to Hobart
Cook breakfast overlooking the water then check out of your accommodation. Head north along the Huon Highway, tracing the mighty Huon River back to Hobart.
Stop in Huonville for lunch at Lost Captain Restaurant and Taphouse, showcasing the best of Huon Valley produce. Dine outside in the garden to soak up some winter rays.
Back in Hobart, take to the skies with Above & Beyond Tasmanian Seaplanes for a 30min alpine flight over the snow-dusted ridgelines of Kunanyi / Mount Wellington.
Wrap up your trip with a twilight Unshackled Hobart Penitentiary tour and hear stories of one of Australia’s most significant convict sites.
Then check in to the Mövenpick Hotel and dine in-house at Tesoro to round off a whirlwind winter weekender in the south.
