Lark at Pontville
Follow the Midland Highway north from Hobart through Tasmania's colonial sandstone country, visiting three distilleries known for their single malts and their heritage settings. Lark Distillery at Pontville was founded in 1992 and is widely regarded as the birthplace of modern Australian whisky. Old Kempton Distillery occupies Dysart House, an 1840s coaching inn, and makes small-batch single malt, gin and Tasmanian liqueurs. Callington Mill Distillery in Oatlands is built around a restored 1837 windmill, with heritage tours, tastings and a blend-your-own-bottle experience. Lunch is a signature seasonal menu at the Callington Mill restaurant, in the sandstone village of Oatlands. Between stops the route follows the old coach road between Hobart and Launceston, through colonial villages and pastoral country. Travel in a Mercedes-Benz SUV, people mover or Sprinter, with pick-up and drop-off at Hobart hotels, private residences, the cruise terminal or the airport. Every itinerary is fully customisable. Choose your own three distilleries and they will build the day around you. This tour suits whisky enthusiasts, couples, small groups and corporate guests who want a full day on the whisky trail without anyone having to drive.
